The Better Life for Tanzanians (BELITA) is a registered trustee which was officially established in 2006 to serve the poor and the disadvantaged groups through the provision of micro-credit. The head office is located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.


Biography
The Better Life for Tanzanians (BELITA) is a registered trustee under provisions of the trustees’ Incorporation Ordinance Cap.375 which was established in 2006 to serve the poor and the disadvantaged groups with the vision of becoming a leading local micro-credit provider in Eastern Tanzania. The mission of the trustee is to provide competitive micro-credits which are affordable and of economical value to disadvantaged group clients in rural areas in order to alleviate poverty. The trust is under 6 boards of Directors who oversee the operations of the institution.

The credit scheme offered by BELITA is mainly based on the solidarity group model with savings and credit being the main components of the scheme. Other components include financial advice and counseling of the clients, training them on business management as well linking the clients with the business support services that are not offered by the trustee.

Since 2006 has been offering loans and training for hundreds of small-scale men and women entrepreneurs, disadvantaged groups, with good performance rate.

While the number of members has gone up from 10 when the institution started to about 4000 members, the staff level has increased from 1 to 26 employees.
